Oh for Heaven sake!!!

I know it's the end of the year, but MY GOODNESS!! This was so bad that I had to blog about it. We just finished studying the American Revolution, and for part of one of their activities they had to look up (yes, in a dictionary mind you) the following words. Here is what got turned in to me today by one student.

Colony: A colony of ants in their nest

Plantation: A long farm

Parliament: Slavery

Redcoats: Lots of fun stuff to do

Correspondence: To be happy

Intolerable: To be really smart (do we see the irony here?)

Delegate: Very easy to break

Ally: Lazy (should I change your name to Ally?)

So after seeing this and giving him my "You've got to be kidding me" look and speech, I send him back with a dictionary AGAIN to correct what he wrote. This is what I then got.

Colony: colony

Plantation: plantation

Parliament: parliament

Redcoats: redcoats

Correspondence: correspondence

Intolerable: parliament

Delegate: parliament

Ally: parliament

Now he is getting on my nerves. But keeping my cool, I took a 1/2 second look at his paper and sent him back with the words once more to copy (and I mean COPY. All I want to see if SOMETHING that resembles) the definitions. This is what I THEN got.

I will just get a 0 on the pages.

To which I then responded with a smile and a happy voice, "Not a problem! (smile) I'll give you the 0 you asked for, (smile) and I will see you at recess with your dictionary all next week until they are all written correctly. That way we'll both be happy! Any questions?" (smile, smile, smile)

Baby names.....

We were talking about the crazy names that parents name their babies after school today.

Allison's cousins (who are both musicians) named their first daughter.... Claire Annette

My sister knows a guy named ..... Lemonjello (pronounced leMONgello)

We just started making up names after that. But, does anyone else have any crazy names that they've heard of?

"I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think."

I've decided that my students need a good dose of critical thinking. My grad class has been doing it's job by giving me the tools to help them progress without me having to hold their hand. Good job Dr. Montgomery. With as much as your class has given me lots of headaches, it's actually paying off. I think Jen, my director, will be happy with what I've done in my classroom too. She's having us fill out rubrics on ourselves as teachers based on 7 stages of teacher development (or something like that). We're also supposed to set some pretty big goals for next year as well. I am praying so hard that I get a new job in the Appoquinimink school district next year. I need to get out of my school, just so I can be in a school that is solid in it's curriculum, it's administration, and it's environment. Jen's going crazy on us again now that it's the end of the year.

Happy last few months of school!

Make 'em count!

Suppose you were to die today, and you were to stand before God, and He were to ask you...

"Why should I let you into my heaven?"

What would you say?

PSSA's and the funny things kids say....

The PSSA's are over! Woo-hoo!
So many things happened these past few days that made me shake my head and give a long sigh.... Tony played connect the dots on his answer sheet and we spent a full 10 minutes erasing it... We were given #2.5 pencils instead of the standard #2.... Jasmine took a full 6 hours on the first 2 tests..... Mike G. made a bed for his lego man out of gum.... Brandon got to the end of his multiple choice section and realized (and freaked out) that he had 4 questions left on his answer sheet, so we had to find the questions that he forgot..... When one question asked to explain how Katrina convinced Maria that the egg was not a bird's egg, Tony wrote, "Katrina took Maria on a cruise." .... A girl in 5th grade wrote as one of her answers, "I wrote 56 because you told me to." (she is learning support)....

Whew! It was interesting to say the least! All this weary teacher can do now is hope for the best....

PSSA hand

Despite the testing, my kids were on fire with funny things this week! I had to write some of them down because it was too good.

Gabe: "You want a dollar for an M&M? My eye's not even worth a dollar! Well, except maybe to gypsies. You know...
they like those things."

Me: "Broccoli stinks when it goes bad."
Danielle: "Yeah, and it gives my mom gas."

Michael: "I wonder why every time I'm around you, Miss Kelly, I can think of the right answer."

Kennedy: "The only time you can only burp is if you say "Excuse me, I didn't know that was coming." Otherwise it's
just rude."

Zach: "I don't like going into the bathroom at the movie theater. Men who go in there pull their pants down. I walk in
and I'm like 'Woah! Cover my eyes!'"

Gabe: ~sigh~
Me: "What's wrong?"
Gabe: "I'm trying to think of something to say..."

While Katie was telling me about how they changed pencils from lead to graphite because kids were chewing on the pencils and getting lead poisining, I looked up really quick and Gabe smiled sheepishly, backed away, and said....
"Uh, oops.. if you smell something I really couldn't help it. I did it all the way to school too."

Anyway.... I'm glad it's the weekend!
